UL 2593 OUTLINE

Description / Abstract: These requirements cover electric turnstile operators and systems rated 250 V or less to be employed in ordinary locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70 intended for permanent supply connection.

The rotating member of the turnstiles greater than 13 lb (6 kg) require further investigation.

These requirements do not cover doors, gates, and other such assemblies that include electric opening and closing equipment that are covered in the Standard for Door, Drapery, Gate, Louver, and Window Operators and Systems, UL 325.

These requirements also cover accessories, such as external entrapment protection devices, for use with equipment covered by this Outline of Investigation.

Turnstiles intended for exit use as defined in the Life Safety Code, NFPA 101 and codes such as the International Building Code, are additionally subject to design requirements specific to such use.
