Description / Abstract:
These requirements apply to High-Tech Class III Products used in
indoor pollution degree 2 locations that:
a) Are supplied by a separable USB, LPS or Class II Power Supply
only (no additional on board power such as from a battery) –
examples being MP3 charging stations, wireless routers, etc.,
or
b) Are supplied by a separable USB, LPS or Class II Power Supply
that also include a primary (non-rechargeable) battery (see
Appendix B) – examples being portable radios, iPod docks, clock
radios, etc., or
c) Are supplied by a separable USB, LPS or Class 2 Power Source
that also include a secondary (rechargeable) battery with a
capacity no larger than 7000 mAh – examples being cell phones,
tablet computers, etc.
Examples of suitable power sources related to items a – c
include:
• Listed Class 2 Transformer
• Listed Class 2 Power Supply
• Other Listed Equipment marked to identify the Class 2 Power
Source
• Limited power output ports of Listed Equipment such as USB
ports, etc. that are powered by a limited power source (see UL
60950-1, Second Edition, sub-clause 2.5).
These requirements include:
a) Relevant technical requirements
b) Relevant manufacturing requirements
c) Relevant program requirements for providing UL, cUL and euUL
services for these products including Manufacturer Qualification
and Training.
These requirements do not apply to products with Laser Modules,
notebook type computers, Class III devices other than described
above in 1.1, products incorporating a high voltage inverter
operating above SELV limits, Class I or Class II products with a
NEMA enclosure rating or IP Rating noted either in the manual or
marketing materials or marked on the unit, an interface to a cable
distribution system or telecommunications network (TN) or motors.
UL reserves the right to determine and modify which products
qualify for this program.
The long-term characteristics or the possible physiological
effects of radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic fields associated
with this equipment have not been investigated.
