Description / Abstract: These requirements cover the battery-operated electrical systems that use consumables containing varying compositions of flavorings, propylene glycol, glycerin, and other ingredients, with or without nicotine, which is heated into an aerosol that the user inhales. Examples include but are not limited to vaporizers, vape pens, hookah pens, e-hookah, e-shisha, e-pipes, electronic cigarettes, e-cigarettes and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). These systems encompass their charging systems, components, parts and accessories.

These requirements do not cover the consumables, such as e-liquids and other inhaled aerosol substances, wicks, and other particulate matter inhaled during use, nor do they cover substances in the emissions from the operation of the devices.

NOTE For example, heavy metal emissions in the aerosol and environmental exposure.

These requirements do not consider the physiological effects of any consumable used with the devices.
