Description / Abstract:
This standard draws on IEEE Std 12207™-2008 to describe system
and software reuse processes.1 It describes the
relationship of reuse processes to system life cycle processes
described in Clause 6 (System Life Cycle Processes) of IEEE Std
12207-2008 and software life cycle processes described in Clause 7
(Software Specific Processes) of IEEE Std 12207-2008. The standard
defines processes and specifies requirements for the processes but
does not specify particular techniques. The scope of the specified
processes is broader than that of IEEE Std 12207-2008 because reuse
activities transcend the life cycle of any particular system. The
specified processes are suitable on an organization-wide basis.
Purpose
Most reuse processes are not distinct from the normal life cycle
but instead must be integrated into other life cycle processes.
Some acquirers require reuse because it has the potential to
achieve faster time-tomarket, improved quality, and cost avoidance.
These considerations compel a process standard that explains how
reuse processes may be incorporated into the life cycle.
