This self-study course is designed to be taken at your convenience, and on your own schedule. You have 90 days to finish the course once you begin.

Nanocoatings and additives can enhance the thermal performance of engineering devices for heating, cooling and thermal storage applications. Such enhancements arise from the better thermo-physical properties of the coatings materials as well as the modification of the surface properties. The applications of these materials and techniques range from HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) to chemical process industries as well as renewable energy technologies (such as solar thermal energy and concentrated solar power). This course will give you insight into exactly how these nanocoatings enhance engineering applications.

You will learn:
  • Fundamentals of nanotechnologies
  • Applications of nanocoatings for thermal engineering
  • The role of computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer
  • Molecular modeling and dynamics

Who should attend:

Engineers and managers who wish to learn more about nanotechnology and nanocoatings.

Course Developer:

Debjyoti Banerjee received his Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of California, Los Angeles. He received three patents (with an additional four patents pending) from his work at Applied Biosystems, NanoInk, Ciphergen Biosystems, Coventor and Tata (India). He joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at Texas AM University in 2005. His sponsored research projects (with academic and industrial collaborators) has exceed $17 million. Dr. Banerjee's research interests are in thermal-fluids sciences with emphasis on multiphase flows, MEMS, micro/nanofluidics, bio-nanotechnology and renewable energy, especially solar thermal energy storage.
