Description / Abstract:
To assist the designer and draftsman in the delineation of
plastic part drawings, a brief discussion of materials and
manufacturing processes and operations has been included along with
design and drawing hints for parts which are formed of the molding
and laminating type plastics. No attempt has been made to cover
overall product design. The design and drawing hints pertain to
those details which are normally incorporated in the design by the
designer and draftsman. Tolerances have been discussed from a
general standpoint only. Typical drawing notes have been shown
which are commonly observed on plastic part drawings. Generally,
the methods of dimensioning of plastic parts' are the same as for
any ocher material and, therefore, have not been included in this
section since they are covered elsewhere in these standards.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this section is to indicate basic preferred design and drafting practices specifically related to parts formed of plastic materials. An attempt has been made to correlate the data which represents good practical design as based on the experience of various fabricators of plastic parts. The data in this section should be considered as recommended practices.
