FOREWORD
The present trend toward internationallyof measurement systems and symbolic representation of quantities and units implies a need for more uniformity in mathematical notation. It is hoped that this first edition will find wide acceptance.
This edition was prepared by a task group, working from earlier Department of Defense and ISO documents. Modem technology makes ever increasing use of lesser-known branches of mathematics; these specialties have been omitted from this basic core standard, but will be considered for future editions.
Following the approval of YI0.20-l97S by American National Standards Committee YIO and the Secretariat, it was approved by the American National Standards Institute on April 130, 1975. .
Supplement YI0.20a was approved by the American National Standards Institute on November 20, 1975;
