Description / Abstract: Scope and General Requirements

This Standard provides general requirements for periodic performance testing and monitoring of pressure relief devices utilized in nuclear power plant systems (included in Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code) which are required to perform a specific function in shutting down a reactor or in mitigating the consequences of an accident. This Standard is meant to cover the period beginning with the plant start-up phase and continuing through the life of the plant and/or device, whichever is the more limiting. This Standard establishes test intervals, test methods, and data requirements, as well as criteria for evaluation of the test results. This Standard also provides recommended performance data that can be acquired during the qualification and/or production acceptance testing of the device and the construction phase of the plant, and subsequently utilized as base line data for the performance testing and monitoring.
